Le gouvernement de News South Wales (Australie) a engagé une réorganisation portuaire impliquant une nouvelle répartition des implantations. Dans ce schéma, Port Jackson, le port historique de Sydney, perdrait une grande part de son activité au profit notamment de Port Kembla.

“The concept of Port Jackson remaining as a working harbour is fading into the mist”, the Chief Executive Officer of Shipping Australia, Mr Llew Russell said today.
Mr Russell was responding to the recent announcement by the NSW Government that car imports will be relocated to Port Kembla from Sydney’s Glebe Island from late 2008.This follows the announcement that all the freight will be re-located from Darling Harbour to Port Kembla by 30 September 2006.
“All that will be left in Port Jackson will be some cruise/ferry calls, a little break-bulk cargo and the oil transported to Gore Bay” he said.
“Mount Ousley will experience at least another 110,000 truck movements a year within the next four years but most of the cars will be returned to Sydney.
