Tau Morwe, the Chief Executive of SA Port Operations (SAPO) declared during a speech in Cape Town on the 24th November 2005, that the question of the privatisation of the ports should be examined today from the angle of efficiency. SAPO remains as operator of the container terminal of Durban and should operate the Coega Terminal to the East of Cape Town. He did however underline that the government could freely designate another operator if they judged SAPO to be lacking in efficiency.
