At end 2006, Hamburg will have a 2200 seat auditorium and a 600 seat hall for chamber music in the Hafen City sector, executed by Herzog & de Meuron in a former cocoa warehouse. Estimated at 186 million euros, the development also comprises residences and a de Luxe hotel. The supporters of this project, considered over-sized by certain people, are expecting a reinforcement of the cultural renown of the city in the face of their Berlin rival.
