Like the whole of the Japanese economy, Osaka is emerging from a period of crisis that was at its strongest in 2002. Although the production of manufactured goods, exportation and distribution remain a characteristic trait of the local economy, this is gradually moving towards the development of the tertiary sector. Numerous international firms have installed their headquarters for the whole of Asia in Osaka. These changes engender new urban orientations that are putting the accent on the quality of life.
