The city of Hô Chi Minh wants to develop an industrial zone (2000 hectares) and a residential district (1600 hectares) in the neighbourhood of the port of Hiêp Phuoc (a port developed as a complement to that of Hô Chi Minh). Peasants are being invited to reinvest the compensation sums received for their agricultural land in shares in the industrial development Company. They could also be offered employment as workmen in the future enterprises in this zone. An international architectural competition will also be opened for the first urban development of the port of Hiêp Phuoc.
