Port of Plymouth has won an award for ‘Most Improved Destination’ The award was presented following a survey conducted by leading cruise publication Dream World Cruise Destination. The survey is considered a barometer of the international cruise industry.
Plymouth has become a notable cruise destination in recent years, partly as a consequence of ABP's investment in improving the port’s cruise-handling facilities. The port has also worked in co-operation with Plymouth City Council to help improve the port’s reception facilities, and with Destination South, to raise awareness of the area’s potential as a cruise destination. With 13 calls scheduled for this season, the port expects to handle over 14,000 passengers.
Colin Greenwell, ABP Port Manager, Port of Plymouth, commented: “Winning this award is fantastic news for Plymouth’s cruise business – it shows we are being recognised for all the great things we have to offer. The port boasts a modern passenger terminal and extensive amenities, while Plymouth itself offers a unique cultural heritage and some spectacular countryside.”
He added: “Visiting cruise ships always bring some spark to the local economy. They also play an important role in the South-West’s tourism industry. This award will help strengthen our reputation as a viable cruise destination and will hopefully help attract even more cruise ships for the future.”
