Author: AIVPOn sale date: Tuesday, 25 April 2006Type of document: ReportLocation: America : Argentina : RosarioLanguage: English, French, SpanishBetween 25th and 27th April last, the port city of Rosario on the River Parana, 300 km upstream from Buenos Aires welcomed about 120 delegates from all over Argentina and other Latin American countries for a seminar. Organised by Ente Administrador Puerto Rosario (ENAPRO) with the active support and participation of IACP, this event exceeded the expectations of the organisers by the number of participants, public and private stakeholders in the development of port cities who showed their strong interest in the topics debated. The event was articulated around the conclusions of the project initiated by IACP and stemming from the European Programme Urb Al, on "good practices in matters of the transformation of city - port interfaces". The delegates from the 5 port cities that took part in the project laid out their city – port development strategies and the two specialists from the IACP network for this project : Joan Alemany and Roberto Converti, chaired the discussions and presented their conclusions. IACP for their part was represented by Olivier Lemaire, General Manager.
Through the reports of the city of Bilbao, of the port of Valparaiso, of the city of Montevideo, of Marseilles represented by Euroméditerranée, and of course of the city and port of Rosario, the discussions concerning the "good practices" to be adopted in matters of city – port development strategies illustrated the interest of the South American ports for the topics and ideas that have been put forward by IACP for many years. On the occasion of this seminar, the "Guide to good practices in matters of strategies of the transformation of city – port interfaces"; edited by the city of Marseilles, leader of the Urb Al project, was able to be presented. This work is now available from the Secretariat of IACP.
The support provided by IACP on the initiative of ENAPRO, is closely set in the scope of the active policy carried out by the Association towards the development of its network in Latin America. In this respect, IACP will shortly be signing a cooperation agreement with the Latin American section of the Port Authorities of the American Association of Ports Authorities (AAPA) in Guayaquil (Ecuador) on the 29th June next. Other events are being planned in the region for 2007.
