Luis Suàrez Trenor, Chairman of Autoridad portuario de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, opens its 2005 annual report by positioning the port at the outset as a component in permanent interaction with the surrounding urban centres. He then states that the port entity should be conscious of its strategic and economic importance in the economy of the region. It is from this angle that the projects and accomplishments carried out in 2005 are presented, and in particular the project Puerto-Ciudad Interacción of the architects Herzog & De Meuron. Henceforth, a connection has been established between the cruise installations and Santa Cruz, reinforcing the place of the port in the heart of the city.
