Mid 2007, the port of Amsterdam will have five new wind power units on their Westport site. This arrangement will enable CO2 emissions in the atmosphere to be significantly reduced. The whole of the wind power park of the port zone will supply the power requirements of 40 000 homes.

Par ailleurs, le port a engagé le projet Greenmils qui a pour objectif de produire une énergie durable à partir du recyclage de déchets organiques. En 2008, sur le site de Horn harbor, plus de 90 hectares seront destinés à cette activité. L'énergie ainsi produite sera principalement destinée aux entreprises mais pourrait aussi répondre aux besoins de 25000 foyers.
