The Port of Vancouver is the first port in Canada to initiate a policy of incitement towards the reduction of air pollution. A three level classification (Gold, Silver and Bronze) enables the port to grant reductions in port dues for the cleanest vessels. Although it is too early to evaluate the true impact of such a measure, the authorities are already observing some rivalry between the various shipping companies looking to obtain the highest possible classification.
