A former gas production unit situated in the industrial port zone of Amsterdam has been reconverted into a cultural centre. Westergasfabriek, inaugurated in its initial configuration in 2003, now covers 14 hectares with sports and leisure installations, an art gallery, etc…. These installations are the scene today for numerous cultural events, notably the Fashion Week. (see : http://www.westergasfabriek.nl).
Apart from this, the Port are continuing their development by announcing a 5 hectare extension to Waterland terminal on their Westhaven site. Works should be completed by 2008;
