The City of Aalborg has engaged in a programme destined to transform the urban nature of a city that is gradually losing its industrial character. The key idea of the project is to forge the image of the city by asserting its maritime identity. In all, about 200 hectares are concerned by this redevelopment project for the waterfront which will include cultural installations, residential zones, offices and cultural and leisure equipment. The idea of the initiators is to maintain the memory of the site but to propose a new reading of it. The reconversion, of the former Nordkraft electrical power station, situated on the waterfront, into a cultural centre is an illustration of this.
