The President of the Philippines has inaugurated the new container terminal at Subic Bay, the first phase in the development of Subic Bay Freeport which, at term, should bring its capacities up to at least 600 000 TEUs. Supported by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation, the project has the ambition of relieving congestion in the port of Manila and of making Subic Bay Freeport a major port for containers for the Asia-Pacific zone. The concession for this new terminal was awarded to a subsidiary of ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services Inc.).
