The authorities have given a final green light to the Barking Riverside project. This operation, which is an integral part of the huge "Thames Gateway" project, will in the end have 40% of open spaces, an access to 2 km along the Thames riverbank and 10 800 new high environmental quality housing units that will be built in four phases. KCAP-ML and Sheppard Robson were selected at end July to draw up the detailed plans of the first two phases for which 4 000 housing units are planned. The engineering works for the various community facilities and the transport infrastructures will also be undertaken in the first phases.
