After a period of economic and industrial decline, the region of Sfax had the advantage of a huge revival programme during the 1997-2007 period. The country intends to continue this work, notably by the modernisation of the port and its infrastructures. Thus the construction of a port at Sidi Youssef, the redevelopment of the port of El Ataya, and the creation of several industrial zones are planned. Other projects concern the sectors of tourism, sport or urban development.
