Beyond the institutional changes, the "City Ports" project of Rotterdam, henceforth directly steered by the port authority, is progressing. One of the latest illustrations of this is the gradual conversion of the Waalhaven site, today not very hospitable, but which, in 10 to 15 years time, should become an attractive centre at the interface between the city and port activities. However, if the managers of the project are insisting on the necessity of a balance between living, working and recreational spaces, they underline that the Waalhaven site should above all conserve its economic vocation.
