99% of Australian international trade goes by sea. The port of Sydney plays in this respect a pivotal role. It generates over 17000 jobs and weighs over 2.5 billion dollars in the economy of the State of New South Wales. The Port Botany extension project falls into a context of a forecast of a growth of the maritime sector over the next 20 years.
