In October 2007, Transnet, the management organisation for the South African ports should launch the environmental impact study for the extension works of the port of Durban on the Bayhead site. The new terminal should be operational in 2014 but forecast figures show that Durban could be saturated by 2010.The authorities are therefore searching for complementary or transitional solutions for managing the requirements of the country in terms of port capacities. However, Transnet states that whatever solution is adopted to set up new installations, this will be conditioned by the evaluation of its environmental cost.

Transnet may begin environmental report on Bayhead next month / ENSLIN-PAYNE, Samantha – Business Report, mardi 11 septembre 2007 - [http://www.busrep.co.za]
