The environmental managers of the Ports Autonomes of Dunkirk, Le Havre, Rouen, Nantes-Saint-Nazaire and Marseilles desired a reinforced cooperation in port environmental matters. It is in this context that they met together on the 25th November at the Port Autonome de Dunkirk.

The participants were able to exchange their points of view concerning four modern day subjects:
  • The organisation and challenges for the departments in charge of environmental management in French Ports ;
  • The relationships between ports, industrial plants, associations, local governments and environmental communications
  • The respect of regulatory requirements and the recent European directives in matters of port waste and refuse, the quality of seawater and the reparation of environmental damages.
  • The management of nature areas and Natura 2000 zones in estuary ports.

The new meeting of the working group will be held in Marseilles in June 2005 and will discuss the framework directive of water and the valorisation of dredging sediments.
