Two new terminals should be constructed in Cai Lan Port (Hong Hai), a deepwater port situated in North Vietnam in the Province of Quang Ninh. To be carried out on the basis of a joint venture with SSA Marine (USA), work is estimated at 60 million US$. In 1996 a first project of the government planned for 6 new additonal berths for the port, built in 1988, to bring its capacity upto 7 million tonnes per annum. Only three of them have been completed. Estmations are tabling on 10 million tonnes in 2010. However, its proximity to the Bay of Ha Long, classified as a world heritage site, remains a parameter to be taken into account.
