Pride, ambition and determination
I received the news of my election as the new President of AIVP in Dublin on 28 May with a mixture of pride, ambition and determination.
Pride first, of course, at being chosen to succeed Jean-Pierre Lecomte, who has steered our association effectively through its evolution over the last six years. Once again, our thanks to you Jean-Pierre for your work.
Ambition next, for AIVP which continues to assert itself as a privileged space for exchanges between all the players involved in the development of port cities. I am particularly keen to welcome new members on all the world’s continents, to develop our exchanges and make them more professional, and to propose new actions to encourage and publicise innovations in port cities. Beyond our perfectly legitimate concerns for local development and port-city integration, we all have to face up to new global challenges. Port cities must participate actively in implementing new collective strategies. A great worldwide association such as ours must be a voice to carry our messages.
Determination finally, because with the active support of our whole international Board of Directors, I shall spare no effort to find new modes of action for our association. Together, all of us in AIVP will continue to lead our cities and ports down the road to progress!
President of AIVP
