cxoqgkgwqaadbdqThe first French port hackathon took place in Le Havre on 19 and 20 November 2016. A total of 75 people, working together in eight teams, went head to head for 24 hours to develop digital solutions to the current issues facing port cities.

The challenge was to “boost services and information flows to the general public”, and the competition was won by “LiveBoats”, an app developed by a team of four young men. Theirs is a fun and stimulating solution that could potentially be widely used by the public.

The app allows users to simply point their smartphone at a boat to find out where it sailed from, where it’s going, what’s its name and so on, putting real-time, augmented reality information on shipping traffic at everyone’s fingertips!

For the occasion, a vast database was made available to all of the participants, including: satellite data and aerial imagery; data on traffic and port operations and associated transport; economic and environmental data; video media; 3D models, etc.

AIVP, a partner of the project organised by HAROPA, in conjunction with SOGET, ENSM, and Seine Estuary Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was a member of the jury.
