The Mayor of Mariupol (Ukraine) visit Le Havre
A delegation from the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, with a population of 600,000 led by Mayor Mr Vadym BOICHENKO, visited France and in particular Le Havre to compare the running of the two cities.
Le Havre and Mariupol share a number of common challenges. Both were destroyed by Second World War bombing, and both are home to port and industrial centres (specifically steel) that are among the biggest employers in their respective regions. This status poses issues, such as the integration of industrial activity into the urban landscape, pollution, the rehabilitation of disused land, tourist development strategies, etc.
The delegation of course paid a visit to AIVP (whose HQ is in Le Havre) and discussed the new challenges facing industrial port cities. The Mayor showed a keen interest in the AIVP network and its potential for exchanging best practices, and is considering joining.
We hope to welcome another member from a new country to our network in the near future.
