An AIVP benchmark to support the growth of the cruise business in Le Havre
The cruise business has grown steadily in Le Havre in recent years. Local stakeholders – including the Port, the City, the local conurbation authority, Office of Tourism, Chamber of Commerce, CRITT Transport & logistics – have committed to a joint process of reflection looking ahead to the period 2020-2025. The aim is to create the conditions for sustainable development for this dynamic activity, and make the area where cruise liners berth a new point of attraction for the city and port of Le Havre, open to the local population and visitors alike.
They approached AIVP to produce a benchmark that can be used to identify practices and solutions adopted to promote the spatial integration of cruise terminals in the city, and open them up to the public, in both the high and low seasons for cruise activity.
After an initial phase involving identifying sites likely to meet the benchmark criteria, the working group has now drawn up a shortlist of six port cities to be examined more closely. A special visit will be made to one of them, for a first-hand look at the local situation on the ground and detailed discussions around the solutions adopted in terms of layout and functions.
