Local ports in the French department of Seine-Maritime look to acquire a Port Center
On 12 December, Olivier Lemaire was invited to take part in the annual meeting of local and coastal ports of Seine-Maritime, this year held in Dieppe, to present AIVP’s efforts to promote Port Centers. The port organisation is keen to examine the possibility of applying the concept to the ports of Dieppe, Fécamp and Le Tréport, as a way of promoting dialogue and consultation on port issues between local stakeholders and the public.
The coastal ports of Seine-Maritime include historic fishing ports, sailing ports, active commercial ports and ports specialising in the marine aggregate sector. As such, they occupy an important place in the local economic landscape, alongside the large international ports of Le Havre and Rouen, in an environment with a strong coastal tourism industry.
Against a backdrop of more stringent environmental protection, climate change and Brexit, these Channel ports are concerned about their future and eager to promote their many, often little-known strengths and benefits. A strategic study looking at the governance of these local ports was also presented at the meeting.
