Marco Sanguineri is born in Genoa on 17 September 1962, Marco Sanguineri graduated in Economics at the University of Genoa.
He started his career in 1987 as a consultant to the Institute of Transport Economics of the Faculty of Economics in Genoa.
In 1992 he was hired by the Marketing Department of the holding company of the Port of Genoa corporate structure, “Porto di Genova S.p.A.”, to conduct the port traffic market reviews, analyses and forecasts.
In 1995 Marco Sanguineri was appointed Planning and Economic Studies Manager of the Port Authority of Genoa, a position he held until 1999 when he was selected as Director of the Planning Department of the Port Authority, one of the core sectors of the company.
In 2006 he was nominated Senior Director of Port Land Use Management within the Port Authority, overseeing port terminal concessions, protection of the environment, port safety and security.
Since 2011 Marco Sanguineri has been Senior Director of Port Planning and Development of  the Port Authority, steering the strategies and policies of the Port of Genoa, in addition to presiding over the EU projects.
Throughout his career, Mr Sanguineri has held key positions on various Boards:
• 1989–90: member of the Technical Scientific Committee (COST) founded
 by the European Union for research on intermodal transport;
• 1996–2001: Managing Director of the “Società Zona Franca Porto di Genova
• 1997–1998:Director of the company “Porto Petroli  S.p.a.”;
• 2002: Director of the company “Finporto S.p.a.”;
• 2003–06:Director of the company “Fiera Internazionale di Genova S.p.a.”
• President of the Committee for Hygiene and Safety;
• Member of the Advisory Group of “Corridor 1 Genoa–Rotterdam”, as per EU regulation 913/2010.
Marco Sanguineri has written numerous publications and papers on port planning and port governance. In addition, he has continued to work with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Genoa.
