Africa’s ports are undergoing a process of transformation, with competition, cooperation and reforms

With 20 containers handled per 1000 inhabitants, Africa is lagging behind when it comes to logistics appeal. Over the last fifteen years, however, things have begun to change. In addition to the three international port hubs, there are now a number of regional hubs and a multitude of new projects. The continent’s ports are focusing on cooperation as they look to tackle common issues such as urban congestion ports or the use of informal practices. For Dr Yann Alix, the emergence of a Smart Port “made in Africa” is at stake.
