A benchmark mission organized by AIVP allowed the Port and the City of Le Havre to have an inspiring visit of Antwerp and Rotterdam. The objective was to learn more about educational outreach actions towards youngsters and citizens. At this occasion, the delegation met Philippe Demoulin of the Port Center of Lillo (Antwerp) and Mary Dotsch director of EIC Port Center Rotterdam. The delegation received also a very interesting input during the visit of the Haven Pavilion of the Port Authority of Antwerp and the Information Center of Maasvlakte 2 (Futureland) created by the Port of Rotterdam.

Lessons that have been learned and that will certainly give new development ideas for the newly opened Port Center in Le Havre are:

  • make clear which your main target is and develop educational programs that are adapted to the type of public your wish to welcome
  • location of the Port Center can influence positively the number of visitors, but first of all develop your attractiveness by concentrating on the content and the story you want to share
  • investment linked to digital and interactive devices should take into account the difficulties and costs linked to maintenance
  • the port center gives you the opportunity to develop an exhibition, but it should never be dissociated from the onsite visits inside the port. What people look for is : experiencing the port !

First Day : Antwerp

Second day : Rotterdam
