:Thanks to its strategic geographical location, La Spezia is one of the most important ports in the Med Sea, with weekly maritime connections to all the continents. With 1.5 million TEU handled in the last years, La Spezia became the second container handling Italian port (net of transhipment), with absolute European excellence productivity performances. Linked to the main North Italian intermodal hub, La Spezia serves industrial domestic market and reaches important Europe destinations via the main freight corridors. La Spezia port is also characterized by a high use of rail mode (>30% of container traffic via rail) and the availability of an immediate hinterland logistics area in S. Stefano Magra. With the new merged port of Marina di Carrara, the Eastern Ligurian Sea can also offer a further important specialization in project cargos, marble products and relevant Ro-Ro services destined to the domestic and international markets.
