Students of the Political Sciences Institute (Sciences Po Paris) tasked to make a survey on port city dynamics in southern countries
True to its associative mission, AIVP has decided to lend its support to an initiative by Urbanistes du Monde (UdM) to send students on the Master in Urban Affairs course of Sciences Po Paris to the port cities of Cape Town (South Africa), Mombasa (Kenya), Hanoi/Haiphong (Vietnam), Vishinjam (Kerala, India), Lima /Callao (Peru) and Buenos Aires (Argentina) in July and August.
AIVP contributed to the definition of the project and will lend its active support to the six winning teams chosen by UdM.
At the request of AIVP the Le Havre Port Centre, jointly with UdM, will organise the forum where the reports on this work will be received in October, which will naturally be of great interest to the AIVP world network.
Before the students leave, an awareness mission on port city themes has been organised for them in Le Havre on 23rd May, consisting of field visits followed by talks given by local actors and AIVP. For most of the students this will be their first introduction to the multiple problems facing port cities; before long they will have to face a wide variety of situations.
We will be sure to keep you informed and report on the progress of these fascinating missions to southern ports on www.aivp.org!
