award espoThe ESPO has chosen “Nature in Port” as the theme for the 8th Award on Societal Integration of Ports. The jury convened in Brussels on 26 September, drawing up a shortlist of five ports from the eleven proposals received: Bremerhaven, Cartagena, Dunkirk, Guadeloupe and Riga. The winner will be announced in Brussels on 9 November.

In examining the eleven submissions, the jury noted the particular importance placed on the need to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, both from civil society and the world of business and industry. Such collaboration results in projects with long term visibility, that enjoy the support of those concerned.

AIVP, member of the Jury, has always had the subject of the environment in its sights, as was shown by the “Cities and Ports for the Environment Charter” signed in Montreal in 1993 or the “Charter for sustainable development of port cities” adopted in Sydney in 2006. There is no doubt that AIVP members will be inspired by the projects proposed in the framework of this Award to implement innovative solutions to preserve and improve the efficiency of their ports, while reducing their environmental impact on the neighbouring community.
