The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands approves its first Equality Plan
This Spanish port authority wants to promote gender equality in the workplace. The plan focuses on increasing female representation, especially in male-dominated sectors like the Port Police. It aims to ensure equal opportunities in employment, professional growth, and internal promotion while fostering inclusivity. An Equality Commission will oversee its implementation until 2029, reinforcing the port authority’s commitment to a discrimination-free, equitable work environment. Zaha Hadid Architects chosen to design culture arts center by a river in Shaoxing
The famous firm of architects has just announced that it has been selected to design the Cao’e River Culture and Art Center in the city of Shaoxing (China), on the banks of the city’s main river. The cultural complex will incorporate a 1,400-seat concert hall capable of hosting operas and other performances, while there will also be arts and education facilities, a heritage museum, a digital art gallery, and a conference centre. The building’s façades will be covered with jade-green Celadon ceramics, with solar panels on the roof. Special care is being taken to protect visitors from extreme weather, sun, rain, and wind, while providing large outdoor public spaces.

The Port of San Diego recognizes local environmental protection initiatives
On 14 January, the Port of San Diego (USA) presented its first ever Anchors of Excellence awards to the organizations Youth Climate Advisors and Clean Coast Collaborative. The two local nonprofit associations were rewarded for their efforts to tackle the emergency posed by pollution in the Tijuana River valley, working to improve air and water quality while mobilizing young people and the scientific community. The Port continues to promote community initiatives with a positive impact on the environment and public health, as part of a collective effort aimed at making the area more sustainable and resilient to climate change.

Montreal: reconnecting the city center with the blue belt
The Quartier Molson, a new $2.5 billion project announced in December 2024, will transform Montreal’s Old Port district (Canada). The mixed-used development aims to breathe new life into the area’s economy and provide new housing for residents, while reconnecting the neighborhood with the Saint Lawrence River. The site, covering some 6 million square feet (558,000 m²), will incorporate homes, shops, offices, hotels, and a large public park, with an emphasis on sustainability and zero-carbon buildings. The project will preserve the industrial history of this site, which dates back to 1786, with the iconic Molson Brewery building set to remain.
