‘Le Pavillon’: a new gateway to discover port activity in Bordeaux
On 25 June 2025, Le Pavillon – Bordeaux Port Center (France) inaugurated its first exhibition hall in Hangar G2 at the Bassins Ă flot. This educational space is the result of a shared initiative between Bordeaux MĂ©tropole, Bordeaux Port, and the Union Maritime. The project aims to showcase the port, the river, and, more broadly, the port’s identity. The guests have the opportunity to explore immersive content and visit the maritime museum, which shares the premises with the Port Center. The next stages in the development of the Pavilion include the opening of a second space dedicated to discovering the professions involved in the port logistics chain. From 2026 onwards, themed tours will be offered. The opening of the permanent site is scheduled for 2028.

A former Kellogg’s factory transformed into a hotel in Bremen
In Bremen (Germany), the former Kellogg’s grain silos on the Ăśberseeinsel peninsula are being transformed into an unconventional hotel at the heart of the Ăśberseestadt urban development project. The architect firm DMAA is responsible for the metamorphosis of the industrial site into the John and Will Silo Hotel. Once capable of storing 5,000 tonnes of Kellogg’s, the silos are now occupied by 117 circular rooms cut into concrete. The emblematic red logo remains in place, a nod to the site’s history. Nearby, a former rice warehouse has been transformed into a gourmet market, a brasserie, and offices to liven up the neighborhood. This project embodies an ambitious urban redevelopment, seamlessly blending the industrial heritage of the area with modern urban living.

Port of Newark Container Terminal unveiled world’s largest solar panel system
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) (USA) have completed one of the world’s largest solar power systems at a container terminal. The 7.2 MW installation will now provide 50% of the terminal’s annual energy requirements and reduce emissions, improving local air quality. Any extra energy will be directed into the regional grid, thus benefiting nearby communities. The plant is part of PNCT’s plan to create a net-zero emissions energy microgrid and supports the Port Authority’s climate goals.

The Basque Industrial Plan supported by the maritime cluster
The Bilbao Maritime Cluster (Spain), Uniport, representing 145 companies, is a key component of the Industrial Plan developed by the government of the Basque Autonomous Community. The plan focuses on three main objectives: increasing industrial activity, improving industrial quality, and reducing emissions. Uniport aims to advance these three pillars as part of its active contribution to the region’s transition. The cluster has also decided to follow the Autonomous Community’s sustainable mobility plan, which seeks to achieve greater environmental sustainability, social justice, and economic and functional efficiency. The cluster has presented its new employment plan to carry out these missions by attracting new talent, particularly young people. A dedicated online job search portal has been developed and will be hosted by Uniport.

Electric shuttle boats serving city centers
The Métropole of Lyon (France) has launched its shuttle boat service to serve the city via the Saône waterways. Currently, the shuttle Navigone operates between the northern part of the metropolis in Vaise and Lyon’s city center. The current Navigone fleet consists of two combustion engine boats. In October 2025, two additional electric boats will be added, and by April 2026, the entire fleet will be 100% electric. The Navigone is integrated into the metropolis’ public transportation system managed by TCL, aligning with the city’s subscription and ticketing system. A similar approach will be adopted in Mumbai (India), which has placed orders for 11 Swedish-designed Candela P-12 electric ferries.
