Oslo port and city working together for a greener future
Starting in 2026, zero-emission vessels calling at the Port of Oslo (Norway) will receive up to a 100% discount on quay fees. The port also plans additional incentives for ships with strong environmental scores and for those using shore power. These measures directly support Oslo’s climate ambitions, backed by nearly NOK 225 million (€20 million) invested in carbon-neutral equipment, helping cut port-related emissions by 26% since 2018. Aligned with the city’s goal of reducing emissions by 95% by 2030, the Port of Oslo stands as a model of effective city-port cooperation, driving a cleaner urban and maritime environment.

Belgian ports stand united
Belgian ports are joining forces to strengthen security through the newly launched Port2Port Security Platform, the first of its kind in Europe. Led by Port of Antwerp-Bruges, North Sea Port, CSD Limburg and the National Drugs Commission, the platform also brings together the ports of Liège, Brussels and Ostend, as well as regional waterway managers. The platform enables intelligence sharing, joint risk assessments, and harmonised security measures across Belgium’s waterways. It addresses emerging threats such as drug smuggling, cyberattacks, and drone incursions and should foster expertise in inspections, access control, and AI-supported surveillance. Built on the ISPS Code and Belgian Maritime Security Act, the initiative aims to create a single, stronger strategy to protect ports.

Quebec Port launches historic $1.7 Billion modernization plan
The Port of Quebec (Canada) has unveiled the largest modernization project in its history, with a $1.7 billion investment over ten years. The plan will upgrade quays, some over a century old, while integrating innovations such as real-time sensors and a digital twin to optimize port operations. The modernization aims to prepare the port for future logistical and climate challenges. Scheduled to start in 2026, the works are expected to create 5,000–7,000 jobs, boosting the local economy and strengthening Quebec’s competitiveness in the North American maritime sector.

Maó Port’s cove gets a makeover
The Balearic Port Authority (APB, Spain) has completed the rehabilitation of the Fonduco Cove quay in Maó Port. The works, aimed at reinforcing the quay, also allowed the APB to collaborate with Es Castell City Council to transform the cove’s surroundings into a pedestrian promenade. The project included replacing water and sewage pipelines. With a budget of €498,306, this initiative aligns with the APB’s strategy to strengthen port-city integration and allow locals and tourists alike to fully enjoy the Balearic ports.
