Callan Park Tidal Baths planned to open in Sydney for summer 2027
Sydney’s (Australia) Inner West Council has given final approval to the new Callan Park tidal pool project. The finalisation is the result of a series of in-depth studies, particularly on environmental issues. The tidal pool development includes an accessible path and ramp, a large, fixed jetty, a pontoon and a shark net. Beyond these swimming facilities, the site aims to become a hub of attractions for users of nearby parks and sports grounds. Construction is scheduled to begin in June and is expected to be completed in summer 2026/27.

New climate transition plan at the Port of Rotterdam
The Port of Rotterdam Authority (the Netherlands) has unveiled its new climate transition plan. Previously limited to emissions from the Authority’s own operations, such as its vessels and employee mobility, the plan’s scope has now been expanded to include emissions from companies operating in the port area and shipping activities within the Harbour Master’s management area. This initial version of the plan included targets and actions based on existing policies through 2030, with a vision toward 2050. The new plan now includes all efforts undertaken by the Port of Rotterdam Authority since then to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into a single, comprehensive framework.

Ports protect the biodiversity with their communities
In Dunkirk (France), the 2026 call for projects “Ensemble, protégeons la mer et le littoral” provides concrete support for local awareness initiatives, marine ecosystem preservation and educational actions by funding community associations. This approach echoes the operation carried out in Le Havre (France) by HAROPA PORT, which mobilised local residents and volunteers alongside the Maison de l’Estuaire to clean the bird roosting site, an ecological area located near Port 2000. Meanwhile, the Port of London Authority (United Kingdom) allocated £50,000 through its Environment Fund to support community projects promoting biodiversity and environmental education along the River Thames. Together, these actions demonstrate the operational, financial, and participatory commitment of port authorities to their local communities.

Swimming and new floating facilities confirmed for London’s Royal Docks
Royal Docks Waterways, the organisation responsible for managing the waterways in London’s Royal Docks area (United Kingdom), has just unveiled its development strategy for Victoria Dock West. The project includes a swimming area and several floating facilities such as a wellness aquatic centre, new housing and a park. One of the main aims of the project is to add 5% more public space to the area. Open water swimming, which until now has been reserved for members of a local club, should be accessible to all, thanks to new facilities to improve safety and access. Construction is expected to begin in 2030. The project is part of a forthcoming policy, ‘Clean and Healthy Waterways’, developed by the London City Council, which aims to improve water quality, expand public access and restore waterways as ecological assets.

Port of Taranto signs deal for new cruise terminal
The Port of Taranto (Italy) has signed an agreement with Global Ports Holding, owner of Taranto Cruise Port, to build a new cruise terminal at San Cataldo pier. The project, promoted by the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Ionio, schedules construction to start in October 2026 after the cruise season, with completion expected in early 2027. The 2,250 m² facility, backed by an investment of over €4.5 million, will strengthen cruise operations and modify passenger access between the port and the urban waterfront, with implications for mobility and port–city connections.
