Activities

The Ports of the Western Ligurian Sea - Genoa, Prà, Savona and Vado Ligure - rank as Italy’s premier port network in terms of total throughput (over 62 million tons of cargo and 4 million passengers handled yearly), with a wide selection of liner services (over 150 connections with 450 ports worldwide), and a full range of vital complementary services (from ship maintenance and construction, to customised IT and logistic and supply chain services). Within this framework, the Western Ligurian Sea port network is unrivalled in the Mediterranean as maritime gateway to the leading industrial and consumer centres in Northern Italy and in Central Europe, specifically, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. In total, the ports offer over 100 berths, with depths up to 18 metres and a total surface area of over 7 million sqm, with plans afoot to upgrade further the port facilities. Over 30 specialised terminals are equipped to cater for all key commodity sectors: solid and liquid bulk, conventional cargo, perishable goods, ro-ro and containers. Strategically located at the heart of the renowned Italian Riviera and close to many top tourist attractions, the ports also offer a wide range of services to passengers. Throughout the year, the world’s major cruise liners sail from the ports to a myriad of destinations in the west Mediterranean, whilst ferry lines connect the ports to the Italian islands, Corsica, Spain and North Africa.
