Riga, 7 June 2019 – The Worldwide Network of Port Cities (AIVP), which brings together 1,900 people from the private and public sectors across all continents, has signed the 10 commitments that make up its 2030 Agenda.

AIVP’s Annual General Meeting has been held in Riga (Latvia) on 6th June 2019. Members have elected the new Board of Directors and Executive Bureau. The programme of activities and budgets have been approved.

During a mission organised on behalf of Grand Port Maritime de Guyane (GPM-Guyane), Olivier Lemaire, General Manager of AIVP met numerous stakeholders from French Guiana and discussed plans to create a new Port Center.

An agreement was signed at the Sorbonne in Paris on 18 April 2019, between AIVP and the Academic Chair “Entrepreneurship, Territory, Innovation” (ETI), launched in 2018 by the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and IAE Paris-Sorbonne Business School. The agreement followed a Master Class given by Professor Gaétan Siew on the topic “Port Cities, World Cities”.

The firm has a multi-disciplinary team with varied, complementary backgrounds, including architects, urban planners, landscaping specialists, geographers, and engineers specializing in planning, development and mobility.

The conference took place during the 3rd and 4th of April in the beautiful port city of Trieste in north-east Italy. The two-day event gathered international experts, including representatives from port authorities, international organisations such as the EU or IMO, and private companies. AIVP was represented by José M Pagés Sánchez, who presented the AIVP Agenda 2030 and the first results of the recent City Port survey conducted by AIVP among their members and contacts all over the world.

AIVP, the Worldwide Network of Port Cities, and the European Council of Spatial Planners (ECTP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at developing joint initiatives and promotional actions and encouraging the sharing of best practices.

Marco KAMIYA who leads globally the Urban Economy and Municipal Finance Branch of UN-Habitat, will open the AIVP Days on Thursday 6th June 2019. He will share his vision on a better and more sustainable future for all port cities in the world, based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Agenda AIVP 2030. Marco KAMIYA will deliver to the gathered audience of decision-makers and elected representatives a strong message on these challenges of what road map for tomorrow’s port cities.

After meeting AIVP’s external strategic consultant José Sanchez at the “Nuevos Viejos Puertos” conference, La Marina de Valencia was impressed by AIVP’s work and activities and has now joined our worldwide network of port city stakeholders.
