Bilbao (Spain): Two organisations raise funds to regenerate declining port districts

Goal 4.4

Developing collaborative approaches, drawing on scientific and technologic knowledge from the scientific community and civil society to support decision making.

Challenge(s)

How can private investors support Port City development in its initiation, maintenance, and capitalisation?

Best Practice

The extent of the funding required for long-term operations and the need to attract and convince private investors must act as an incentive to innovate when creating financing models. These may be based on the creation of specific funding structures designed to initiate and fund the first installations and create the necessary leveraging effect. The city of Bilbao has two projects that join public and private actors to act on developing and redeveloping city areas.

This good practice also includes objective 4.4 (Developing collaborative approaches and drawing on scientific and technologic knowledge from the scientific community and civil society to support decision-making) of the AIVP’s 2030 Agenda.
