Drones can be useful for ports in a variety of ways, from predictive maintenance, traffic analysis and congestion prevention, to detecting threats or pollution. Antwerp-Bruges port authority (Belgium) has acquired six H-dive drones to deploy as their eyes in the sky, supplementing the existing ground-based sensors. Used in tandem, the two solutions will help to create a digital twin for the port complex, which covers more than 120 km² of land in the Escaut estuary.

The Ciénaga port zone in Magdalena (Colombia) is set to be radically transformed with the construction of a railway viaduct and a multi-purpose terminal to replace existing coal infrastructures. The port firm Rio Cordoba has been handed responsibility for overseeing the 30 year project. The new port will rely on five modes of transportation: road, rail, air, river, and sea. The project will generate some 1,500 jobs for the region. It will also positively impact professional training and provide financial compensation for local fishers. Environmental corridors will ensure continuity for local biodiversity, despite the transportation networks cutting through ecosystems in numerous places.

The General Stores of the Port of Austerlitz (Paris, France) will be reinvigorated through the hybrid project “Les Amarres”. Quays 1 and 2 of the Port of Austerlitz, which is recognized as a Parisian industrial heritage site, will be redeveloped. The project will create a logistics space to test out river logistics in the heart of Paris; a day shelter for people in need; and, on the first floor, a social space for coworking, restaurants, and an outdoor terrace. Many Agenda 2030 by AIVP goals are considered in the project such as climate change adaptation and decarbonization, river cleanliness, and sustainable mobility are at the heart of the project. The 6 000m² project is expected to be completed by 2026.

In recognition of the World Migratory Bird Day on May 13, the Ports of Algeciras Bay and Tarifa revealed their first Avifauna Guide. The Guide aims to valorize the bird diversity that can be observed within the ports’ service area. It is in line with the Green Strategy of the APBA, respecting the cultural and natural heritage of the area whilst also giving visibility to the port activities, showcasing the integrated and transversal environmental approach of the corporate sustainability strategy. The principal aim of the guide is to invite people to visit the port and walk along mentioned paths to enjoy the local avifauna.
