:Durban is located on the eastern seaboard of Southern Africa and is characterised by a mild, sub-tropical climate. It is Southern Africa’s premier port city which has a population of approximately 4 million people and a GDP of about R300 billion. Port of Durban is one of Africa’s largest and most efficient container ports which serves as the gateway for Southern Africa’s economic hub. The presence of the port and international airport with advanced freight capabilities has resulted in a large freight transport sector which has also produced a sophisticated manufacturing industry. The dominant manufacturing sub-sectors include Petro-chemicals, automotive, fast moving consumer goods, clothing and textiles and agro-processing as well as other multi-national component manufactures. The traditional growth sectors have been complemented by the recently developed special economic zones at Dube Trade Port developed around the freight capabilities of the international airport. This has attracted significant investment in the electronics sector, which includes Samsung and DB Schenker. The sub-tropical climate and warm Indian ocean as well as the rich and diverse culture, complimented by the friendly disposition of the local people, has resulted in the growth of a large tourism industry. In addition, the proximity to big 5 game reserves, rich natural flora and fauna, the scenic Drakensberg mountains as well as abundant marine wildlife and water sports, makes the city an ideal for visitors all year round”.
