:Port Réunion is a commercial port, a fishing port and a cruise port, in addition to being a military base (France's third largest naval base). It comprises two sites located 3 km apart: the West Port (1886), and the East Port (1986 extended in 2007, then in 2015). As the main gateway for goods for import and export (99% of goods) of REUNION Island, Port Réunion is the second largest port in Europe's Outermost Regions, and the fourth largest French container port. In 2019, over 5,915,372 tonnes of goods passed through the port, which handled nearly 375,000 TEU's over the same period. After the expansion of its container dock in 2015 and the acquisition of three new “super-post-Panamax” gantry cranes, Port Réunion now operates vessels from 9,000 to 10,000 TEUs. The arrival in 2016 if new direct links with Europe, Asia and Africa confirms the port’s new status as a regional maritime transhipment hub in the Indian Ocean.
