jpl-colloque-risquesThe challenges facing port cities were discussed by Jean-Pierre Lecomte, President of AIVP, at the symposium “Réinventer la ville face aux risques et défis à venir” (Reinventing the city in light of the coming risks and challenges), which was held in Paris on 13th and 14th November 2013. He pointed out that most of the large cities in today’s globalized world are also large ports, and that the city-port relationship is one of the key factors in the urban dynamics of these world-cities.

At the closing round table, Jean-Pierre Lecomte spoke to an audience composed mostly of professionals, students, and urban development thinkers, about the challenges that will have to be faced by port-cities. For example, the AIVP is directly aware of the expected grave consequences that climate change and sea level rise will have on ports. This topic will continue to be stressed by AIVP as the world prepares for the 21st Climate Conference to be held in Paris in 2015.
