The Port of Esbjerg (Denmark), in collaboration with ECOncrete, is using dredged sediments for next-generation port infrastructure. The sediments collected in this way are incorporated into the manufacture of “Coastalock” concrete blocks. These blocks promote marine biodiversity through the addition of specific additives to the concrete, optimising conditions for marine life to settle and grow. The first Coastablock units were recently installed at the Nordsøka site. Several hundred units will be deployed in the future to become an integral part of the port’s infrastructure.
