Activities

The first population basin in Guadeloupe, the Communauté d’Agglomération Cap Excellence, created on 30 December 2008, is the economic lung of the archipelago and its densest centre of activity and employment. The territory is home to 101,163 inhabitants, one quarter of the population of Guadeloupe, and contains more than 16,000 companies, in 18 Economic Activity Zones, managed jointly by the three districts in which it lies. It provides more than 61,000 jobs, nearly half the jobs in Guadeloupe. The big institutions around which the territory functions are Grand Port Maritime de Guadeloupe, the international airport Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes, the Pointe-à-Pitre/Les Abymes University Hospital Centre, the Guadeloupe Campus of the University of the Antilles, and the Caribbean Centre of Expressions and Memory of Slavery and the Slave Trade, the ACTe Memorial.
