Activities
Tripoli Port is a strategic Mediterranean hub linking Asia with Europe and serving Arab and Gulf countries through smooth land transit. Its proximity to the Suez Canal strengthens its regional role. The port supports Tripoli’s economy by facilitating trade, employment, and supply of essential goods, while the city provides labor, services, and infrastructure.
Several EU-funded projects enhanced sustainability and preparedness. MESP improved environmental monitoring of air and water quality. MEDPORTS strengthened logistics efficiency and intermodal transport. PROMAPIR protected Palm Island Reserve and improved marine environmental control. BE-READY introduced a system for tracking oil and hazardous spills using decision-support tools. PROMPT expanded monitoring to volatile pollutants and drifting containers via satellite systems.
The SAFARI Horizon Europe project (ongoing) develops a digital platform for climate-resilient port infrastructure. It enables ports to maintain 80% operational capacity during disruptions, optimize multimodal transport, reduce environmental impact, strengthen infrastructure against extreme weather, ensure safety of people and vessels, protect biodiversity, and establish governance guidelines for climate risk management
