On August 26-28, The Connected River Project gathered for the 12th Project Partner Meeting – this time hosted in the beautiful and sunny pilot area of Vordingborg (Denmark). The City of Vordingborg is taking on exciting challenges in planning and developing its two pilot areas within Connected River.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is to strengthen the attractiveness of the southern waterfronts and spark new interest, development, activity, and recreational use along the coast. By rethinking and revitalizing these areas, Vordingborg aims to create vibrant, livable spaces that connect people with the waterfront in new ways.
The project partners had the opportunity to learn about the two experiments of the pilot area:
The “𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗮” at Sydhavnen – a creative social hub by the waterfront
The “𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴” on Masnedø Island – transforming revitalized port areas into vibrant, liveable quarters
The first day concluded in true cultural style with a performance of Don Quixote at the WAVES Festival, a bi-annual event that bring international artists into the city for street performances.
The two following days were also very busy with:
A workshop on “Placemaking for Port Cities” organized and moderated by AIVP, represented by Noémi Mené. This workshop was an opportunity to get an update from the project’s “nordic partners”, By & Havn and the City of Ystad of their current projects and updates of the work done since last year, when we met them in Stockholm.
Then a site visit to the Port of Vordingborg and the pilot area Masnedø Marinecenter – by Business Vordingborg – who shared insights into the exciting development plan for the industrial harbor
The day concluded by a workshop hosted by BARK Consulting and Lab7.dk on Digital Place Making and 3D-scan tools. The last morning was dedicated to present the 32 solution cards taken from the pilots areas’ experiments during the first three years of the project.
The next meeting will be in Paris in the spring of 2026, hosted by AIVP in partnership with its members HAROPA Port and the City of Paris.
