Following the success of the 2024 edition, we are pleased to announce that the AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht will return for a second edition in 2026 with the same ambition: to reward and promote the most remarkable port-city development projects that are part of a sustainable development approach!

Who can apply?

The Prize is awarded to port authorities and/or local or regional authorities for urban development project that meet the following criteria:

1/ Located in a port-city interface zone and/or a former port site.

2/ Completed in the last three years prior to the current edition of the Prize.

3/ Designed as part of a comprehensive development strategy for the port city and its ecosystem.

4/ Aligned with the sustainable development goals identified in the Agenda 2030 by AIVP.

Evaluation Process

As in the first edition, the evaluation of candidate projects will be carried out by an Expert Panel chaired by Carola Hein, Professor and Director of the Chair of History of Architecture and Urbanism at Delft University in the Netherlands. The Expert Panel will select a shortlist based on a common evaluation grid. The finalists will be interviewed by the members of the Grand Jury. The Grand Jury is chaired by Geraldine Knatz, Professor of Political Science and Engineering at the University of Southern California and the Viterbi School of Engineering, and former Executive Director of the Port of Los Angeles.

The Jury for the 2026 edition of the AIVP Prize Antoine Rufenacht Prize be composed mainly of the experts and leaders already involved in 2024, in order to ensure consistency and continuity in the evaluation of projects.

Key Dates for the 2026 Edition

March 2, 2026: Opening of the call for applications.

July 31, 2026: Closing of the call for applications.

Summer 2026: Review of applications by the Expert Panel.

September 2026: Meeting of the Expert Panel and selection of the finalists.

November 2 and 3, 2026: In-person meeting of the Grand Jury in Dunkirk (France), interview of the finalists, and choice of the winner.

November 3 to 6, 2026: AIVP World Conference in Dunkirk (France), announcement of the winner and official Prize ceremony.
