On June 19, 2025, our association’s General Assembly was held by videoconference, chaired by Édouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre (France) and President of AIVP. On this occasion, the members approved the creation of a non-profit organization (NPO) based in Canada, paving the way for the establishment of a permanent AIVP North America representation in Quebec City in January 2026.
This initiative, supported by the Port and City of Quebec, as well as the governments of Quebec and Canada, builds on the ongoing commitment of Canadian members within our network, whether they are located on the Atlantic coast, the Pacific coast, or along the St. Lawrence Seaway. It also extends AIVP’s strategy towards port cities in the United States, aimed at strengthening AIVP’s representation in North America.
During its three-year consolidation phase, the non-profit organization’s team will have five priority missions:
1. Meet with all members, learn about the city-port issues in their territories, and gather their expectations. This will involve field missions to each of them.
2. Develop the network by increasing the number of prospecting missions. The northeastern United States will be a priority region.
3. Develop a strategic watch to identify best practices on the themes defined by members from among the 10 themes of the AIVP Agenda, promote them and disseminate them. In line with the work of the AIVP, the circulation and dissemination of knowledge is a priority issue.
4. Organize a two-day workshop for members during one of the non-profit organization’s statutory meetings.
5. Identify other possible actions in terms of publications, studies, international cooperation programs, or support for members in some of their City-Port programs. These actions will be determined at the end of the expectations gathering period. They will also aim to increase the non-profit organization’s own resources. All of these activities should help to clarify the business model that will enable the non-profit organization to continue its activities beyond 2028.
