It is more than three years since AIVP decided to take up the idea of Port Centers, a tool at the service of improved integration between the city, the port and the public. This innovative Charter, fruit of the association’s work, has already been adopted in more than seven port-cities which have a Port Center or a Port Center project (Anvers Havencentrum Lillo, Genoa Port Center, Port Center du Havre, Dunkirk Maritime Museum, Houston Maritime Museum, Ashdod Visitor Center, Livorno Port Center).
The initiative has been blessed by other port networks such as ESPO (European Sea Ports Organisation), IAPH (Internatinal Association of Ports and Harbours), AAPA (American Association of Port Authorities) and Assoporti (Italien Seaports Association). The private operator Contship Italia Group, with its Porto LAB project, also decided to support and encourage this commitment.
The Missions Charter of a Port Center will be very widely developed in the AIVP world-wide network of port-cities. We hope it will accompany all those who are interested in opening their ports to the public, making young people aware of port-related professions and activities, and developing the emergence of a living port-city culture.
