Introduction

The Port Center Working Group will meet on June 24-25, 2025, in Rotterdam (Netherlands). Please reserve these dates in your calendars and plan to arrive in Rotterdam on the evening of Monday, June 23.

As you know, this group, led by AIVP, is specifically dedicated to active members interested in establishing and developing a Port Center. The group provides an opportunity to compare experiences and continuously adapt each Port Center to the societal changes of the port city. It is a working group focused on sharing best practices related to the integration of the port, city, and citizens, as well as promoting the concept.

Since 2014, the group has met annually to exchange insights on the latest innovations in citizen dialogue. Eight workshops have already been organized: Ashdod in 2014, Livorno in 2015, Antwerp in 2016, Le Havre in 2017, Genoa in 2018, Bilbao in 2019, Dunkirk in 2023, and Montreal in 2024.

Portlantis – Rotterdam

Portlantis is a brand-new immersive center set to open in Rotterdam in 2025. Located at the entrance of the port, it will offer a unique experience to explore behind the scenes of Europe’s largest port—highlighting innovation, sustainability, and the maritime future.
Designed to be educational, interactive, and inspiring, Portlantis will allow visitors of all ages to engage with key topics like global trade, energy transition, and port logistics through exhibitions, digital installations, and stunning views of the working port.
Portlantis reflects Rotterdam’s ambition: a port connected to the world, constantly evolving, and looking boldly toward the future.

Rotterdam, a port city in the Netherlands, is a symbol of modernity and renewal. Located at the crossroads of the Rhine and the Meuse rivers, it began as a small fishing village in the 13th century before growing into a major maritime hub.
Shaped by the bombings of World War II, Rotterdam chose to rebuild differently—with boldness and creativity. Rather than restoring its past, the city embraced innovation, becoming a testing ground for contemporary architecture.
Today, skyscrapers, iconic bridges, and unique public spaces coexist with a vibrant arts scene. A multicultural city in constant transformation, Rotterdam reflects the energy of a place firmly focused on the future.
